Female Folk Supergroup Sometymes Why Release Your Heart Is A Glorious Machine

Image

Nashville, TN - Three beguiling female musicians Aoife O''Donovan, Kristin Andreassen, and Ruth Ungar Merenda, together known as Sometymes Why, will release their sophomore record Your Heart is a Glorious Machine on the venerated Signature Sounds Recording label. The album will be unveiled on March 10, 2009, building on the success of their self-titled release in 2006. The seductive incantations offered on their newest release seizes listeners and continues to widen the spell cast on audiences since Sometymes Why''s inception in 2004.

Your Heart is a Glorious Machine picks up where the debut recording left off musically and the trio''s magic vocal blend is omnipresent. What began as casual harmonies while touring on the same bill, Sometymes Why has grown into a band all their own, modern sirens hypnotizing audiences the globe over. Your Heart is a Glorious Machine also showcases the maturity unfolding in these complex and vibrant women in the midst of a folk renaissance.

Sometymes Why members, both as a group and individually, have nurtured international success, garnered critical accolades and have inspired a loyal following. Each of the women play a major role in other contemporary folk and bluegrass bands: Crooked Still (O''Donovan), Uncle Earl (Andreassen) and The Mammals (Merenda). The collaboration makes Sometymes Why a supergroup to those who have been paying attention to the recent folk movement. These artists and their collaborators are prodigious contemporary musicians, vaulted by tastemaker publications such as No Depression and London''s Sunday Times who credit them with a modern folk and string band revival.

', '

Sometymes Why''s music is not strictly folk or alternative bluegrass; more akin to Jenny Lewis or Feist than their other projects, the trio weaves funky standards with their own sensual ballads to create a sound all their own. The women refuse to be classified by their voices or by outdated feminine mores and the songs explore pansexuality through the palpable texture of their lush harmony work. Following in the footsteps of strong folk females, the captivating energy comes simply in the chorus and confidence of delivery. Their stripped-down treatment is evident on the album''s single, "Joey." Made popular by Concrete Blonde in 1990, Sometymes Why''s cover is aching, and desires to charm the antagonist down the path of recovery.

Known for seducing audiences with their live performances, the songs on Sometymes Why''s Your Heart is a Glorious Machine have an ethereal quality that allows the femme fatales to take center stage. The album, produced by Jos' Ayerve (Winterpills, Spouse), was recorded in Dreamland Studio, just outside of Woodstock, New York. The studio is a storied location in upstate New York and is quite different from the DIY tone of their debut recording Sometymes Why. Despite the new studio location, much of the album is loyal to the stage performance of Sometymes Why.

In the future, the women will continue work and foster future collaborative energies, a dynamism the trio finds most rewarding. In 2009, Sometymes Why will take to the road and perform nationwide to support Your Heart is a Glorious Machine.

Praise for Sometymes Why
"Watching Sometymes Why is like watching a Victorian magic show staged in a luxury hotel orbiting *Ganymede. There is an air of friendly sleight-of-hand. Entranced by the wordplay in the songs, one suddenly realizes that there is more silence than sound. And of course the magic of the three "Lovely Assistants," who require no other assistance to spin this spell. One of my favorite bands ever." - Darol Anger

Alabama's Jeff Cook Presents "Smokin" New Album Release

ImageNew Album, Ashes Won''t Burn, to be Digitally Released on i-Tunes March 17

(Nashville, TN - February 26, 2009) - After retiring from the road in 2004, country supergroup Alabama left millions of their fans salivating for more of the down-home country music they had been devouring for three decades. During the group''s 30-year run, the boys managed to snag 42 #1 Hits, two Grammy Awards, 23 American Music Awards, three CMA "Entertainer of the Year" Awards, ACM''s "Group of the Decade," and the RIAA''s "Group of the Century."

Now, five years later, Alabama lead guitarist, fiddle player and founding member Jeff Cook has cranked up his Allstar Goodtime Band (AGB) to bring fans that familiar Alabama sound as well as something new. Cook and the AGB will release Ashes Won''t Burn and will be available for download on i-Tunes beginning March 17. The new album, releasing on Quest Records, isn''t genre specific but rather 'Country, Soul and Rock-n-Roll,'' as Cook calls it.

"This new record will please Rock, Blues and Soul fans alike... we had a lot of fun making it... we call it 'Funtry'' music. Country music fans can expect to hear those familiar guitar and fiddle licks from the past," says Cook.

Ashes Won''t Burn, will showcase previously released re-recorded cuts from Cook''s days with Alabama, new cuts co-written by Cook, as well as tried-and-true classics including "Brickhouse," Knockin'' on Heaven''s Door," and "All Right Now."

Cook''s Allstar Goodtime Band is a nine-piece group (including Cook) complete with a three-piece horn section and percussion. Prior to forming the band, Cook methodically handpicked all eight band members based on stage chemistry... a difficult task when considering the large number of musicians he has collaborated with throughout the years.

"I put this group together to target the casino, fairs and festival demographics," notes Cook on his versatile band. "We love playing the diversified music types!"

Born in Fort Payne, Alabama, Jeff Cook has been playing lead guitar and keyboard since the age of 13. In addition to his rich vocals Cook has just about done it all. Alabama signed a recording contract with RCA records in 1980, launching a career that to date has resulted in 21 gold, platinum and multi-platinum albums and more than 78 million records sold. In November of 2005, Jeff and his bandmates received Country Music''s highest honor, as they were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Alabama is one of the Top 20 best-selling acts of all time. In the U.S. alone, they have sold more albums than Elvis and The Beatles combined.

In 2001, Cook was named "Guitarist of the Year" by the Gibson Guitar Company.

Now with the Allstar Goodtime Band and a rejuvenated enthusiasm for performing, Jeff Cook is back on stage... singing three decades of Alabama hits plus his very own brand of "Country, Soul, & Rock n'' Roll."

Aaron Tippin Kicks Into Overdrive With Trucker-Dedicated Release

ImageJust when you think he's hit his stride the hardest working man in country music kicks it into overdrive!  In Overdrive debuts February 3 on NIPPIT - Country Crossing Records.  Aaron Tippin co-produced with Tim Grogan and the executive producer is label head James Stroud. This album of country classics was created for the American trucking professional and the people who care about them.

And when it comes to picking, recording and sequencing songs for an album like this, Aaron Tippin qualifies for this honor in a big way.   His unique perspective comes from his own fair share of time spent behind the wheel of the big rigs and the lifestyle that goes with it.

'I've had my heart set on doing this album for a long time,' Tippin recalls.  'Now, with the current economic state, I'm reminded of the unsung heroes of the road, that legion of devoted Americans, some 4 million strong, who make their living in the trucking industry and hammer down, day after day.  And I wanted to make this record for them.'

Tippin always loved everything about the trucking industry. 'It's part of my chemical makeup I guess,' he explains.  'I love the way the trucks look, the shine, the mechanics, the ride, roar and the ruckus you feel when you pass a monster convoy or experience hundred of tough-looking rigs rolling into a trucking convention or NASCAR race.  I can appreciate the tireless and ongoing mammoth effort that goes into moving America... I'm humbled to thank my friends in the trucking business by singing my favorite road songs for them as we all roll on down the road.'

In Overdrive will be available on the NIPPIT Records Country Crossing label, distributed by RED Distribution.  Tracks include:

East Bound and Down
Truck Drivin' Man
Drivin' My Life Away
Six Days On The Road
Chicken Truck
The Ballad Of Danger Dave and Double Trouble
Prisoner of The Highway
Girl On The Billboard
Long White Line
Movin' On
White Knight
Roll On
Drivin'' Fool
Drill Here, Drill Now (Bonus Track)

Also included as a bonus track on the new record is Tippin''s pro-drilling anthem, "Drill Here, Drill Now."  The cut gained national attention this past year.

Truckers and country fans alike can be sure their buddy from Nashville has them on his mind as he pounds the highway, In Overdrive, on the concert trail alongside them in his unmistakable WWW.AARONTIPPIN.COM tour bus.
