4th Annual HAAM Benefit Day

ImageHEALTH ALLIANCE FOR AUSTIN MUSICIANS INVITES BUSINESSES ACROSS AUSTIN AREA TO JOIN 4TH ANNUAL HAAM BENEFIT DAY.

Austin, TX -- The 4th Annual HAAM Benefit Day is set for Tuesday, September 22, and Health Alliance for Austin Musicians wants to ensure that every business in the Austin area gets in on celebrating the cooperation among live music, the hard-working musicians who make it and the businesses community that backs it up -- all in the name of providing affordable healthcare services for those music-makers who've enrolled in the groundbreaking HAAM.

This year, more than 250 Austin-area businesses are expected to join in the sounds of HAAM Benefit Day, with a variety of enviable perks for the largest donor-participants, and the Topfer Family Foundation is offering a matching grant of up to $25,000.

On HAAM Benefit Day, area businesses, many with multiple locations, pledge 5 percent of their days' proceeds or make cash donations. Performances by local bands -- many with members that have joined HAAM -- are scheduled for restaurants, retail outlets, clubs, office courtyards, the airport and City Hall. Last year, $150,000 was raised from more than 200 participating businesses. A complete list of participating businesses and a music schedule will become available at www.myhaam.org.

The whole thing kicks off with the first Annual Party, on September 17 at Stubb's Bar B-Q, of the Alliance's "Good Eggs & HAAM" group whose members will educate the community about HAAM and its mission; support the organization with small annual monetary contributions; and enjoy networking events, educational sessions and fundraising events.

Larry Gatlin And Gatlin Brothers Return With Ode To Johnny Cash

Larry Gatlin & The Gatlin Brothers Return With "Johnny Cash is Dead (And His House Burned Down)" and Debut on Fox TV's Huckabee This Weekend

(Nashville, TN) - 'Johnny Cash Is Dead (And His House Burned Down)' is a rip-roaring hosanna to the Man in Black.  This isn't a song you can describe in a press release.  This is a song you cue up, turn up and rip the knobs off and throw them out the window!  And you do this TODAY, as this historic and controversial single goes to radio. For a TV taste of this tune, THIS Saturday June 27, 2009 on Fox TV, Larry Gatlin and The Gatlin Brothers debut the track on Governor Mike Huckabee's TV show, Huckabee at 8 PM EST.

After 17 years away from the bright lights of Nashville's Music Row, Larry Gatlin and The Gatlin Brothers return to radio with a blistering country single on Curb Records, 'Johnny Cash is Dead and His House Burned Down.'

There have been many great voices in country music and one golden one: Larry Gatlin. His bell-like tones are works of art in themselves, quite apart from the lyrics they illuminate. Of course, Gatlin is equally distinguished as a songwriter. Of the 42 songs he charted between 1973 and 1990, including 17 Top 10s and the Grammy-winning "Broken Lady," he single-handedly wrote every one, an achievement unmatched by any other artist in popular music.

Sunset Slim Captures Nashville Poker Crown

Image(Nashville, TN - June 17, 2009) Legendary Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter and member of the 2006 Team Pokerstars, Sunset Slim has won the inaugural 'Andy Griggs Celebrity Poker Tournament' benefiting St. Jude Children''s Research Hospital.

Slim, whose new CD just happens to be titled "DEAL ME IN," bested fellow celebrities in a down to the wire winner take all victory!

The tournament held at the Cadillac Ranch in the heart of Music City USA, was presented by Digital Rodeo and hosted by country star Andy Griggs. Held during CMA Music Fest, the venue was jam packed with country music fans clamoring to get a glimpse of their favorite star.

Slim joined fellow poker playing celebrities Andy Griggs, Tracy Byrd, The Roys, The Parks, Jeff Bates, Steve Holy, Whitney Duncan, Duane Propes (Little Texas), Jeremy McComb, American Idol''s Bo Bice, Tennessee Titan Jacob Ford, American Gladiator Hollywood Yates and NASCAR''s Stanton Barrett among a host of other Stars for some serious Texas Hold 'Em.

Hollywood Yates took an early lead by winning a 'big pot,' but Slim soon took most of Yates'' and host Andy Griggs'' chips by turning over an ace-king against Griggs' ace-queen and Yates'' ace-jack, giving Slim a commanding lead.

The tournament had a time limit, as opposed to playing until one player has all the chips. When the last hand was announced, Slim realized that if the second and third place players went all-in against each other, which they surely would, he would have to call with any two cards. As luck would have it Slim was dealt a terrible hand' a 6-4 off suit, but he made the call. The flop came 3, 9, 5 giving Slim an open ended straight draw. Fourth street was a queen, giving Stanton Barrett a pair of queens. Slim stood and said, "Don''t get too excited Stanton... here comes a 7 !" Sure enough, Slim rivered the 7 to make his straight and win the inaugural 'Andy Griggs Celebrity Poker Tournament' in grand style.

"The tournament was a blast!" quipped Slim. "Digital Rodeo and the Cadillac Ranch did a first-class job of presenting the event and it was a great pleasure to participate for such a wonderful charity like St. Jude! Andy Griggs played fantastically and was a tremendous host and the jam session afterwards, well... it was jammin'! I look forward to defending my crown next year' a great time was had by all!'

The Susan Cowsill Band Recreates "Revolver" At The Saxon Pub

Image(Austin, Texas) - Covered in Vinyl is a concept show The Susan Cowsill Band has been doing for several years. For the first time they are bringing this concept to Austin to perform The Beatles album Revolver although Susan herself is no strange to the Austin music scene. Besides an uncanny knack for getting to the heart and soul of songwriting, Cowsill''s voice has been praised for her throaty, seasoned vocals. Along with her husband and drummer Russ Broussard, Susan and band will provide an evening of fun with the familiar and an unparalleled depth of expression and feeling. The show will be on June 12 from 9 -11:30 p.m. at the Saxon Pub, 1320 S. Lamar Blvd.  Call (512) 448-2552 for more information or go to www.thesaxonpub.com.

Susan Cowsill''s voice is an "impressive instrument, hitting the notes-between-the-notes, the subtle tones that are so emotionally complex." says The Washington Post. Susan Cowsill made her initial mark on popular culture at the tender age of eight with The Cowsills, the 60s family pop group that not only scored Top Ten singles "The Rain the Park and Other Things", "Hair" and "We Can Fly" but also served as the real-life inspiration for TV''s fictional Partridge Family.

During Susan''s decade with New Orleans'' roots-pop super-group The Continental Drifters she won the hearts of discerning listeners with her impassioned vocals and personally-charged songwriting, gracing three widely-acclaimed albums and a decade''s worth of riveting performances.

OffBeat Magazine named Susan Cowsill "Best Female Vocalist" and the Susan Cowsill Band "Best Roots/Rock/Country Band" in January 2008. Wet Bank Guide named Susan''s Katrina song, "Crescent City Snow" "...arguably the best of the lot. It is the anthem we have all been waiting for."  Susan Cowsill''s solo album Just Believe It won critical praise from titans of the music industry.

Russ Broussard was born 1965 in Louisiana and started drumming at the age of two. According to family lore, young Russ was so mesmerized by National Geographic photos of the Ituri drummers in Central Africa that he would cry himself to sleep because he was not a part of the drum ceremony.

Russ'' dreams held firm and he graduated from the North Carolina School of the Arts in classical percussion, which led to the beginning of his professional career at the age of fifteen. Russ can adapt his drumming skills to any style and has played with artists as diverse as Paul Simon, Robert Palmer, Kim Wilson, James Cotton, Terrance Simien, Bluerunners, the Continental Drifters, and the Bay City Rollers.

Together Susan and Russ will lead us down memory lane while waking us up to the present. Please go to www.susancowsill.com or www.myspace.com/susancowsill for more information.
