Chris Brade was definitely the clear winner of the November Austin Music City CD voter's poll with so many votes it nearly burned up our site! The Giddings Texas native certainly has a lot to be happy about. Since taking a short hiatus from the business this last summer to write more songs and get some recording done, Chris and the band have been in constant demand rejoining the Texas Music scene in October. 'I just needed a little time to take a breather, do some writing and get my priorities lined out' Brade stated. And the trademark high energy, take no prisoners, blow out the walls live concerts are still the order of the day, something Brade has been known for bringing to his fans for the past few years. Chasing a dream that he has had since the age of 8 when his parents gave him his first guitar, Brade has been writing songs and coming up with ideas for songs constantly, a talent that has rewarded him many times, especially in 2005 when he won the Horizon award at the 28th annual Terry Awards in Fort Worth Texas, putting him in the company of past winners such as Gary P. Nunn, Aaron Watson, and Lonestar.
Brade's songwriting runs the gamut from tender love songs to those that are not so tender as in 'Dr. Phil,' a song about a guy that has had quite enough of what the good doctor has prescribed for the stay at home wife who complains that her husband never brings her flowers or takes her out while at the same time she sits on the couch eating chips and watching tv all day, growing ever wider. It's one of those songs that is not only politically incorrect, but it's also a crowd favorite with both men and women. Last summer, Brade traveled to Nashville to put the finishing touches on some new material that will be out on an album in early 2008 and if crowd reaction is any measure of how it will be accepted, it should do well indeed.
Brade is steeped in traditional Country Music naming stars like Merle Haggard, Hank Williams and George Jones as influences in his early life but he's not scared of 'The Edge' and in reality, as far as songwriting goes, he is fearless, never afraid to reach a little, push the envelope and say exactly what's on his mind. And the time he served in the Air Force Reserve working as a B-52 weapons instructor only helped him gain more insight to another side of the human emotion and giving him more experiences to write about.
With a renewed career, a new wife and management team, and a new album coming out next year, it can only be a fantastic year for Chris Brade. Check out his website at chrisbradeband.com or www.myspace.com/chrisbradecountry
